The Buffalo Choral Arts Society is a nonprofit community chorus dedicated to bringing high-quality music of all genres to the Western New York community. Founded in 1966, BCAS is celebrating its 60th anniversary next season! With a roster of over 130 singers, BCAS is one of the largest community choirs in Western New York.
BCAS was founded by Robert Schulz, a Buffalo native and nationally renowned conductor. He was succeeded in 1983 by John Ricca and in 1987 by Marcia A. Giamborne, who led the group until she retired in 2023 after 36 years. Currently, BCAS is under the direction of David Curtis, who is entering his third season as Music Director.
BCAS has travelled internationally in Paris, Normandy, Dublin, London, Vienna, Provence, Barcelona, Prague, and Quebéc, as well as nationally in Washington, D.C., and, most recently, in New York City for the 2015 July 4th celebration. BCAS was the winner of Artvoice's "Best Vocal Ensemble" award for five consecutive years, and was inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame in 2018, remaining the only chorus to earn that honor!
As a part of the mission to further music and choral education in Western New York, BCAS has performed alongside many local high school choirs, including the Lancaster High School Concert Choir, Hamburg High School Concert Chorale, and most recently, the Amherst High School Concert Chorale. BCAS will work with the Sweet Home Concert Chorale this upcoming October!
The mission of Buffalo Choral Arts Society is to be an inclusive community of singers performing inspirational and innovative music for diverse audiences
