Western New Yorkers love what feels like home — our neighbors, our teams, and the waterways that shape the places we live, work, and gather.
While Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper may not be throwing touchdown passes or scoring game-winning goals (we’ll leave that to the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres), for 35 years we’ve proudly been protecting and restoring the waters that make Western New York home. And just like our hometown teams, this work is only possible because of a passionate community standing behind it.
One of the greatest examples of what’s possible when a community comes together is the Buffalo River. Once declared “dead” in the late 1960s, the River has been transformed through decades of restoration led by Waterkeeper alongside dedicated partners and supporters. Today, it stands as a symbol of resilience, revival, and pride for our region — a waterway our community can once again call home.
That same spirit drives our work every day. From restoring habitat and protecting drinking water to caring for creeks, shorelines, and headwaters across the watershed, Buffalo Niagara Waterkeeper is working to ensure every waterway in our region is healthy, accessible, and thriving for generations to come.
Today, we’re asking you to stand up for the waters that define our home. Your donation helps restore damaged habitats, safeguard clean water, respond to emerging threats, and ensure future generations can experience the same connection to our waterways that we cherish today.
Because protecting our waterways isn’t just about the environment — it’s about protecting the places where memories are made, where communities come together, and where Western New Yorkers feel most at home.
Make your gift today and help defend, restore, and protect the waterways that make Western New York home.
Our mission is to protect and restore our water and surrounding ecosystems for the benefit of current and future generations.
