About City Swim Project
Swimming, if you know how, is the only sport that can save your life! Research shows 64% of African American, 45% of Hispanic/Latino, 40% of Caucasian children and 79% of children in households with incomes less than $50,000 have little-to-no swimming ability. However, formal swim lessons can reduce the risk of drowning by 88%. One of the barriers to swimming is the cost of formal swim lessons.
The City Swim Project is committed to eliminating barriers and providing access to swim lessons and competitive swimming for marginalized populations. The program provides free and reduced cost swim lessons and competitive swimming opportunities to families based on income. CSP is the only city-based program capable of creating strong swimmers that can become lifeguards. Since 2019, City Swim Project has served over 360 children annually. USA Swimming recognizes the City Swim Project as one of the most diverse programs of it's nearly 3000 registered organizations nationally. The program has been highlighted at the World Clinic hosted by the American Swim Coaches Association and serves as a model for USA Swimming organizations/clubs around the country.
To make a positive impact in diverse communities by providing safe access and a supportive environment for the sport of swimming.
