The Point Gratiot Nature Trail is an existing trail within the eastern woods of Point Gratiot Park in Dunkirk, NY. It was very rustic and only used by a few residents, as well as local high school sports teams for running practice. Over the past few years Revitalize Dunkirk has secured funds and volunteers to clean up and widen the trail, and laid down wood chips. Thanks to a generous grant from the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation (NCCF), we were able to hire a consultant to develop a plan for 4 activity stations along the trail that will focus on various senses (sight, sound, touch, smell) and encourage children to spend time among the trees learning about their natural environment, using their imagination, and having fun! Revitalize Dunkirk has set aside funds to clear these activity areas, which will be located just off the trail, so as to not interfere with trail walkers and runners. Our next step is to raise funds for the play/learning equipment within those stations. That's what this year's Give716 Fundraiser is all about. We appreciate your support, and hope to see you on the trail soon!
