Neighbors Foundation Of Grand Island

The Neighbors Foundation was created in 1972 to provide assistance to Grand Islanders in need. It was founded by the leaders of the Rotary Club, in coordination with the Zonta Club and Grand Island Schools, receiving 501(c)(3) charitable status in 1974.

Initially, it was an informal organization that periodically solicited donations through the Grand Island Dispatch and Grand Island Penny Saver.

By 1977, Saint Stephens Roman Catholic Church offered space to the Neighbors Foundation, and a food pantry was established to provide non-perishable items to Grand Islanders who needed assistance. 

The Neighbors Foundation gratefully receives generous food and monetary donations from civic and religious organizations, businesses, and individuals. 

Of particular note, is the support that we receive from the Grand Island School District in collecting non-perishable food donations and providing students to make possible our Holiday Food Distribution in December.

We also receive excellent support from the Grand Island Letter Carriers through their Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive in May of each year, which collects non-perishable food donations from residents throughout the Island. 

Since its inception, the Foundation has been an all-volunteer organization, so all of the donations we receive are directly in support of our mission to provide confidential food assistance to our Grand Island Neighbors.

Each year we distribute thousands of pounds of food and tens of thousands of dollars in gift cards to individuals and Families in need on Grand Island. Please donate and help us do even more to combat food insecurity in our community!

We are an all-volunteer organization providing confidential food assistance to our Grand Island Neighbors through the generosity of individuals, churches and other groups who donate funds and non-perishable goods.
