Our goal is to further fundraise and donate to the Town Of Hamburg Recreation Department Blaze Sports program that maximizes the potential of children and adults with physical disabilities through sport.
We are excited to participate in this year's Give 716. Fundraising will begin at 7:16 p.m. on Monday, July 15 and will run through 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16.
The goal of Give 716 is simple: to unite Sabres and Bills fans with the Western New York Community in an epic day of giving! Nonprofits deliver for our community every day, so let's come together as one team, for one day, and become a symbol of generosity not only for our local community, but for the world. Give 716 will bring together individuals, groups and businesses in support of any nonprofit headquartered or providing services in one of eight counties to include Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua.
Please support our organization with a donation during this year's Give 716. We are thrilled and honored to be participating amongst so many organizations who are also doing incredible things to make our community a better place!
On January 12, 2007 we lost a very significant person in our community our dear friend, Donny Thiry. Donny loved sports but unfortunately his disease, Neurofibromatosis, prevented him from actively participating in the sports he adored. Although he wasn’t able to physically participate it didn’t stop him from being involved. For years he worked for the Town of Hamburg Recreation Department as a recreation assistant. He also served as team managers for the basketball and baseball teams at Frontier High School., where he was inducted into the Sports Wall of Fame. Donny brought a smile to the face of everyone he came in contact with. His strength, determination and character made him an inspiration and role model to us all. We wanted to keep his legacy alive so we started The Donny Thiry Foundation. The main goal of our foundation is to help children and young adults with mental and physical disabilities similar to Donny’s, actively participate in sports and other activities instead of just watching from the sidelines. Donny’s passion for sports and his dedication to the Town of Hamburg Recreation Dept. makes BlazeSports of Hamburg (New York) an easy choice to be the primary beneficiary of the tournament. BlazeSports is a national organization that maximizes the potential of children and adults with physical disabilities through sport. The Town of Hamburg Recreation Dept. is the only certified BlazeSports program in New York State and with our help has developed recreation programs for Individuals with disabilities. In our first fifteen years we have raised over $150,000 for BlazeSports, an amount, that certainly would have made Donny proud.
