VIA Visually Impaired Advancement is a nonprofit rehabilitation and social services agency committed to people who are experiencing vision loss. We provide tools, education, rehabilitation, job training, job placement, and support for people of all ages.

VIA (Visually Impaired Advancement) is a valuable partner for individuals and families facing visual impairment or blindness. We understand the profound impact of such a diagnosis and aim to provide hope, empowerment, and practical solutions. With a rich history dating back to the formation of the Buffalo Association of the Blind in 1907, and continuing through the Olmsted Center for Sight, VIA has been guiding people of all ages through their journey of vision loss.

As the leading nonprofit rehabilitation and social services agency in Western New York, VIA offers a comprehensive range of tools, education, rehabilitation, job training, job placement, and support. Our goal is to equip individuals with the resources they need to achieve their highest level of independence. We firmly believe that no one should be limited by their visual impairment, and we strive to break down barriers and open doors to new opportunities.

In addition to our vital services, VIA creates employment opportunities for visually impaired individuals. Through contracts with the federal and state government as well as businesses like Wegmans, we provide positions that allow individuals to contribute their skills and talents. For example, our visually impaired staff manages switchboards at the Buffalo and Erie, PA Veterans Hospitals, handling over 142,360 calls. Furthermore, our contact center contracts, including 211 Western New York, ensure that we are available to support our community whenever they need us.

On Give 716 Day, we invite you to join us in our mission to uplift and empower the visually impaired community. Your support enables us to continue providing crucial services, fostering independence, and creating opportunities for individuals to thrive. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those affected by visual impairment or blindness.

VIA's mission is to help people who are blind or visually impaired achieve their highest level of independence.
