Buffalo Gay Mens Chorus Inc

The Buffalo Gay Men's Chorus has been a beacon within the Western New York LGBTQ+/LGBTQIA community for over 20 proud years. Since our first rehearsal the terrible night of September 11, 2001, we have stood and sung-out on stage in defiance of hate and in a call for love, in venues all over Western New York. Attention Sports Fans: the BGMC has sung the US and Canadian National Anthems at Bisons games, Sabres games, and UB Bulls games, and we thank the Bills and Sabres for making this fund-raising opportunity available. Please, step up to the plate for us!

The BGMC fundraising goal this summer, in conjunction with Give716, is to raise $7160 (or more) to purchase new library materials and appropriate storage cabinets, and to up our game with the employment of local musicians and artists to enrich our performances. The COVID pandemic has changed our mix of voices, and we need to purchase music arranged for the voices we have, plus expanding our music library to represent society and the struggles of the LGBTQ+/LGBTQIA community. This will not only enrich our performances, but also put local artists to work.

The next big event for the BGMC is our annual National Coming Out Day Concert, "RAINBOW CONNECTIONS" on October 11, 2024 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. Arguably the most important concert of our season, it is always free, always in a local accessible venue, and always reaches-out to local youth. With invited musical guests from the WNY community, the program will include music, personal stories of coming out, and will showcase a diverse population of the LGBTQ+ community. The BGMC music will include music pulled from our library, with some new pieces added, and will feature music celebrating community, authenticity, bravery, and allyship. The BGMC foots the bill for this event, as the program takes place before we have a paid-entry event. Donors early in our concert season will help us not start out in a financial hole, playing catch-up the rest of the season.

We can't wait to participate in this year's Give 716. Fundraising will begin at 7:16 p.m. on Sunday, July 16 and will run through 7:16 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18.

Over the 56 hours of giving combined in 2021 and 2022, Give 716 has impacted 601 WNY charities with over 11,000 donors contributing to 17,410 donations.

The goal of Give 716 is simple: to unite Sabres and Bills fans with the Western New York Community in an epic day of giving! Nonprofits deliver for our community every day, so let's come together as one team, for one day, and become a symbol of generosity not only for our local community, but for the world. Give 716 will bring together individuals, groups and businesses in support of any nonprofit headquartered or providing services in one of eight counties to include Erie, Niagara, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, Cattaraugus and Chautauqua.
