Swimming, if you know how, is the only sport that can save your life! Formal swim lessons reduce the risk of drowning by 88%. The program is committed to eliminating barriers and providing access to swim lessons and competitive swimming for marginalized populations. The City Swim Project provides free and reduced cost swim lessons and competitive swimming opportunities to families based on income. CSP is the only city-based program capable of creating strong swimmers that can become lifeguards. Since 2019, City Swim Project has served over 360 children annually. 4.5% of Black/African American swimmers registered with USA Swimming came from the City Swim Project, while 2.5% of all outreach swimmers registered nationally with USA Swimming were members of CSP. To date in 2025, membership has grown to over 420 participants. The program has been highlighted at the World Clinic hosted by the American Swim Coaches Association and serves as a model for USA Swimming organizations/clubs around the country.
