Rasing Awareness and Improving Treatment for Opioid Addiction
This is the face of addiction. Addiction takes the souls of those affected by this disease and breaks the hearts of those that love them. The Hilary Grace Foundation was formed for charitable purposes to honor the life and virtues of Hilary Grace White who lost her battle to opioid addiction. The Foundation, in partnership with Horizon Health Services, opened Hilary’s House in November 2023- a retreat center - for those battling substance use disorder. This 4,000 square foot facility provides a communal space for patients to meet with family members and friends receiving in-patient treatment and working toward recovery.
In 2017, a young vibrant women named Hilary Grace White was working diligently on her master's degree in counseling, The daughter of a loving family her life stretched before her, filled with possibility and opportunity. She carried with her the excitement of someone eager to make her mark on the world. Hilary's struggle began when she was prescribed prescription pills for depression and anxiety which, then, like many others, led to illegal substances. She struggled to kick her addiction, successfully completing inpatient rehab two times, and then voluntarily moving to a transitional house that, unfortunately, did nothing for her sobriety. Despite her best efforts, and the support of her family, Hilary lost her battle with substance use disorder in August of 2017. Vowing to raise awareness of the national opioid crisis and improve treatment options for its victims, the White Family established The Hilary Grace Foundation (HGF) in 2018. One of the main goals of the HGF is to improve the patient and family experience of those battling addiction by establishing a retreat house. Also known as Hilary's House, this space will be used for patients, family members and staff to grow and gain support throughout the recovery journey in an environment that is safe and offers enhanced care. We partnered with Horizon Health Services to build Hilary's House, a 4,000 square foot retreat center on their campus in Sanborn, NY. It opened in November 2023. For over 45 years, Horizon Health Services has provided hope and healing for families dealing with substance use disorder and/or mental health disorders. By creating this new space, unlike anything currently available in New York State, more people suffering from addiction will be able to receive treatment and have the opportunity to recover. Funds raised through Give 716 will go to our continued fight against the national opioid crisis and community educational efforts.
