Empowering lives by advocating for inclusive community living in safe homes, nurturing families, and supporting those in need--join us in transforming futures today!
Your contribution will assist us in building a caregiving network for people with developmental disabilities when their families can no longer provide care. Read about us below.
Transforming Care is a human services not for profit organization based in Buffalo, NY whose mission is to facilitate the creation of sustainable supports for individuals who need long term care, their families and caregivers so they can access the critical spiritual, material, and social resources needed to thrive in their homes and communities. Our main goal is to support Friends of L'Arche Buffalo and Western New York , a committee of Transforming Care, as they work to establish a L'Arche residential community in the Buffalo area.
A L'Arche is traditionally a residence where both differently and traditionally abled people live and work together. The L'Arche model where people with and without disabilities live together has proven to offer the most potentially stable means of supporting people with developmental disabilities who need 24 hour care. There are more than 156 communities world wide. L'Arche is a community that celebrates diversity and seeks to make known the gifts of people with developmental disabilities. L'Arche was founded over 50 years ago, yet its philosophy of inclusivity and the centrality of relationships in caregiving is more timely than ever. A L'Arche in Buffalo will offer stability and a warm and welcoming home to people with disabilities who need comprehensive care. Friends of L 'Arche Buffalo and WNY is currently developing a supportive network with other local organzations and faith communities so that L'Arche homes in Buffalo will be grounded in social and spiritual support. Our goal is to open our first home within the next three years that will serve as a model for inclusive community care. Please see the L'Arche USA and L'Arche International websites for more details about existing L'Arche communities in the United States. We are currently seeking financial donations to help make this dream of creating our first home a reality.
Transforming Care also sponsors Carly's Cent's for Socks, a successful project that has existed since 2016 leveraging the power of different community, religious and business partners to collect financial donations as well as socks to be distributed to families in need through the Response to Love center in Buffalo. Your financial donations will stay here in Western New York and allow us to build a loving, supportive home where people of different abilities can thrive.
