Military Mothers Supporting Those Serving Us - Past, Present and Future
Blue Star Mothers are mothers and female guardians whose sons & daughters represent a full spectrum of service in the United States military be it Active Duty, Reserves, or National Guard. Some of our sons & daughters have just entered the military and are at the beginning of their career, some are currently serving and may be deployed or stationed throughout the world, and some have honorably served our country and are now proud veterans.
Chapter NY7 represents the counties of Erie & Niagara and serves all counties in western New York. The Chapter was chartered in 2010 with the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc., and is a registered 501c(3) organization.
We are a wonderful group of Moms dedicated to supporting the men & women serving across all branches of the United States Military, as well as supporting veterans, veteran organizations, military families and Gold Star families in the western New York community.
We are a busy Chapter and with your support we can reach more active duty military and veterans. We were fortunate to raise over $700 during last year's Give 716, which allowed us to send a Touch of Buffalo to our deployed military. Our goal this year is to raise $2,000.
Here are some of the activities we've done in the past, thanks to donors like you:
- Assembled and sent 600 We Care Packages to deployed military and local military who are serving at bases away from home. An average package costs $25 for shipping, and we sent 600 last year. Our goal is to send 700 this year.
- Provided pizza parties during Buffalo Bills games and sponsor Bingo games for inpatients at the local VA Medical Center. We hope to increase the number of these activities & support our hospitalized veterans.
- As part of our Valentines for Veterans program, distributed over 300 gift bags of personal care and other items to inpatients and outpatients at the Buffalo and Batavia VA Medical Centers, which included veteran patients served in the PTSD clinic and special goodie bags for the patients' service dogs. This program will continue to grow; our goal is to distribute 400 gift bags.
- Provided household and cleaning products to the 170 residents served by the WNY Veterans Housing Coalition. For the upcoming year, we would like to increase the donations for these veterans who would otherwise be homeless.
- Participate in holiday celebrations for military children and families. We would like to increase the number of holiday celebrations and bring joy to the military children.
- Sponsor the Student Graduate Ceremony that recognizes and honors high school graduates joining the United States Armed Forces. Blue Star Mothers NY7 provides red, white and blue graduation cords to acknowledge the graduate's decision to serve our country. We will continue this tradition to honor these young men and women.
- Volunteer and support other local organizations that focus on military families and veterans. Our plan is to increase the number of programs and activities that support these groups.
- Honor and support our Gold Star Sisters and Gold Star families.
In addition to these and many other programs and patriotic ceremonies, Blue Star Mothers NY7 support each other and our Blue Star Dads, as only another Military Mom or Dad can truly understand. Each of us has experienced the emotional roller coaster of sending our child for the unknown of basic training, having great pride at their military graduation, as well as worrying when they are so far away from home or deployed.
It's through our relationships as military families and the participation in our programs that we find comfort while also caring for those who currently serve and have served our country.
Please consider supporting us as we support our troops, veterans and each other.
It is only through the generosity of our donors like you that we can continue to carry out our mission of Supporting Those Serving Us - Past, Present and Future. Thank you for your consideration!
