Working to improve the quality of life for the people who live and work in Black Rock/Riverside/West Hertel/Grant-Amherst communities of Buffalo.
Since the establishment of the BRRAlliance in 2011, this primarily volunteer run and driven organization has worked tirelessly to bring over $1M in investments into the community with focus on the following areas:
Environmental Impact
Since our inception much of what we do has revolved around nature for both beautification and sustenance for our community. Our community gardens allow us to feed our neighbors and they act as important meeting spots. We grow and educate together with our neighbors who are our most important asset. Evolution of our programs has taken us to work on more environmental sensitive projects. Our environmental speaker series provide education and teaching about relevant environmental topics. Our work on a community wide habitat project has prompted us to lead the City of Buffalo, Erie County and Niagara County to become National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat Communities and begin to create a certified wildlife habitat corridor which will be the first of it's kind in the country! We work educating people about our national bird way, butterfly way and RAMSAR designated wetland and we have created the the Black Rock Harbor Center, a site focused as an environmental center with multiple not for profits.
Economic Impact
The Buffalo Main Street Initiatives grants we have received help our business communities grow and prosper. We believe our community’s voice is important and should be heard when it comes to plans for our community and we make sure that voice is at the table. New grants and partnerships with major projects such as Niagara Street redevelopment assure our community voices are heard and needs are met. We continue to grow our relationship with important city, county, state, and business partners to make sure we are present when decisions are made relevant to our communities. We continue to create partnerships that will bring jobs into the community by introducing more non-traditional career paths to students and adults. This will form the basis of future economic growth and jobs for our community.
Quality of Life
From working alongside the neighbors in one of our three community gardens, to distributing and planting sunflowers and native perennial flowers or trees, so much of what we do has revolved around nature for both beautification and sustenance for our community. Our Holiday events and our free markets are important to our community and bolster the interaction at all levels of our community. We believe and work with the idea that this community is important and deserves a high quality of life for all!
