The Massachusetts Avenue Project is a nonprofit food hub working to connect people to fresh, local food. We imagine a community in which all youth and families have access to fresh, healthy, and culturally appropriate food, where people of all incomes have economic opportunities, where vacant lots are transformed into productive green spaces, and where youth and their families are engaged in their communities.
MAP works towards our mission and vision through:
- The operation of 14 weekly Mobile Market sites throughout Buffalo which bring fresh, local, affordable produce from over 20 farms in the region to areas of throughout Buffalo suffering from food apartheid.
- Our Growing Green Youth program employs over 50 youth annually with a year-round employment and training program in urban agriculture, culinary arts, food systems and social justice. Youth gain foundational skills through an equity lens by engaging in hands on learning and leadership development.
- Local food production on MAP's 1.5 acre urban farm including fields of vegetables, fruit trees, perennial herbs, a flock of chickens, active honeybee colonies, and plenty of native pollinator-friendly plants. We work to grow culturally significant varieties of produce to help serve the diverse population of New Americans in Buffalo.
- Free Gardening & Farming classes for over 400 participants annually in the Spring and Fall in collaboration with Urban Roots and Grassroots Gardens of WNY.
- Accessible commercial kitchen rental for over 20 local food entrepreneurs who are starting or growing their food businesses.
- Culinary Education classes that celebrate diverse food stories and connect people to their food and the land while teaching the skills needed to prepare fresh, nutritious produce into a variety of meals and products.
The revolution will be cultivated!
