Sadie's Story
Every year, thousands of dogs find themselves in shelters around the country, hoping to find a home before their time is up. Unfortunately, these facilities present a stressful environment where many dogs are not comfortable and therefore, are not marketable to potential adopters. Shelters consistently exceed their capacity, leading to an alarming rate of unnecessary euthanasia. Sadie’s Safe Harbor Canine Rescue aims to combat this avoidable loss of life and give these dogs the chance they deserve.
Sadie's Safe Harbor Canine Rescue was founded in 2003 by an amazing woman named Julie. She had a passion for saving animals and poured her heart and soul into changing the world. When Julie tragically passed away ten years later, her close friends continued to build Sadie's, to carry on Julie's mission. We now have a team of over 100 volunteers who foster, transport, fundraise, review applications, complete home visits, and so much more, to give dogs a fresh start.
We aim to educate the community about the importance of spay & neuter, to alleviate the homeless pet population here in Western New York, and to assist other areas of the country that so desperately need support. We bring dogs into our care from local shelters, out of state shelters and direct surrender from owners who can no longer care for their dogs. Sadie’s Rescue does not have a physical shelter, rather all of our rescue dogs are in foster homes throughout Western New York. These foster families provide loving homes while dogs develop the skills necessary for a successful adoption. We are an all-breed, any circumstance rescue, operated entirely by volunteers. Every cent we raise goes directly to the care of our dogs, including veterinary bills, food, toys, treats, supplies, and transport costs. Our motto is:
Rescue One
Although we certainly can't "save them all", we can make a big impact, one dog at a time.
