The Summer Reading Challenge is back at the Prendergast Library. Help us to make 2022 the best year yet!

The 2022 "Oceans of Possibilities" Summer Reading Program focuses on collaboration with community partners, programming, and engaging reluctant readers. In 2021, over 700 children participated in our Summer Reading Challenge, reading over 1 million minutes! This year, we're expanding outreach and offerings to meet community needs and provide Summer Reading fun for all ages. 

Once again, we will partner with Jamestown Public School's LEAP camps; this year, all children participating in Summer Reading will be part of our "Read for Beads" program, designed to instill pride in children meeting their reading goals. Inspired by Jamestown High School English class students who regularly visited the library during the school year, staff developed new teen-focused programs. This summer, teens can participate in book clubs, trivia contests, crafting classes, and more. For all ages, Wednesdays are the day to be at your library this summer! We'll have outdoor programs and special guests, including Cornell Cooperative Extension, Audubon Community Nature Center, the Jamestown Fire Department, and the Fenton History Center.

Every Thursday, we will visit the city's parks with Pop-up Library programming, including crafts, storytimes, games, mobile Makerspace, and free books. In order to reach neighborhoods further away from the library, staff will visit St. Susan's Center monthly for storytimes and craft programs. 

Our Summer Reading Challenge encourages everyone to read whether you are a child, teen, or adult. We know that increased literacy leads to better communication, economic growth, and encourages lifelong learning. Together, we can promote literacy and have fun doing it!
