Literacy Outreach

We believe that the ability to read is an essential element of survival. Our high quality, community-based literacy programs empower adults to reach their full potential as individuals, employees, parents, citizens, and community members. 

“If you can read, you can succeed.” Working on this premise, Literacy Outreach (LO) offers individualized or small-group essential literacy instruction. Literacy Outreach recruits, trains, and supports volunteers to work with adult learners and their families weekly. Literacy Outreach works with the hardest-to-reach and hardest-to-teach adult learners. Other services include citizenship exam preparation, pronunciation practice, practical computer classes, and financial literacy workshops. In addition, a wide range of English enhancement classes are offered through our Hands-On English classes and book clubs to keep learners motivated and eager to expand their vocabularies.

A thriving and productive workforce is a literate one. The self-sufficiency imparted through our services addresses many community needs including decreasing unemployment, eradicating poverty, cultivating family literacy, and assimilating immigrants into the community. Individual gains become gains for families, employers, and the community.

Literacy Outreach believes that education is a catalyst for change and provides life-changing opportunities for people. Only through education can individuals be empowered to obtain good health, become better parents and employees, and reach their full potential as community contributors. Education transforms the lives of individuals, families, and entire communities.
