Supporting wounded veterans through professional umpire training, fostering camaraderie, personal growth and peer to peer support.

The Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy (WWUA) was established to empower veterans through professional umpire training, fostering camaraderie, personal growth, and peer-to-peer support. Recognizing that umpiring not only imparts valuable skills but also creates lasting connections among veterans passionate about baseball, the Academy seeks to build a strong community. The journey began in 2013 when a chance meeting between two veterans during an umpire training camp revealed the unique bond shared by military personnel and umpires. This connection sparked the idea to create a dedicated program for veterans. In early 2014, discussions took place to establish the first Wounded Warrior Umpire Camp, which was officially held in the summer of that year in Denver, Colorado. After months of coordination and planning, the inaugural camp provided veterans with the opportunity to learn umpiring while connecting with fellow service members. This initial success laid the groundwork for the Academy's future.

In 2015, the Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy was officially incorporated, with a mission to empower veterans nationwide to find a renewed sense of purpose, belonging, and lifelong community. Through our training camps, and alumni events, we aim to facilitate deeper personal growth and enduring support that extends beyond military service, impacting lives and helping veterans find a new mission within the world of baseball. Since then, the WWUA has become a source of inspiration and support, with many participants expressing how the program has transformed their lives.

The Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy (WWUA) is a veteran-run organization which empowers veterans through professional umpire training, fostering camaraderie, personal growth and peer to peer support.

Our vision is to empower veterans nationwide, to find a renewed sense of purpose, belonging, and lifelong community, using umpire training as a catalyst for deeper personal growth and enduring support beyond their military service.

Wounded Warrior Umpire Academy is a Charity participating in the NASCAR Day Giveathon 2025 a Giving Day event, presented by The NASCAR Foundation.
