Hostel Buffalo Niagara
Host to backpackers, travelers and out-of-towners, domestic and abroad, this independent & non-profit hostel is in the heart of downtown Buffalo’s Theater District. We offer a communal homestead with a fully equipped kitchen with coffee, teas and oatmeal, sweet spacious lounges, free wifi, book exchange, free store, free bicycle sharing, laundry facilities, bag storage and a movie room with the finest hand picked selection of VHS tapes and Ping Pong!
Since 1996, the Hostel has been a Buffalo treasure and vital cultural asset to Downtown and Western New York. In February 2017 the Hostel building (from Main St to Washington St) went up for sale by the our landlord Buffalo Urban Renewal Agency(BURA). The Hostel occupies the vibrant front half of the building on Main Street, but the rear portion along Washington Street sits vacant and blighted. Hostel Buffalo-Niagara ran a Save the Hostel campaign and successfully convinced BURA to give us a chance to purchase the building and redevelop the rear portion of the building.
In May 2020, Hostel-Buffalo Niagara signed a Designated Developer Agreement with BURA to allow us to begin the process. We are working with Savarino Companies and Foit-Albert Architects to design a project that will allow us to purchase the building, renovate the blighted portion of the building and expand our operations into the vacant part of the building. As we continue to work with the City and BURA, we need your support! Financing construction projects take capital! We want to continue to serve the Buffalo community as host to backpackers and travelers from all over the world! We are currently fundraising to raise funds to undertake this exciting new project and help revitalize our building to help us continue into the future!
Est. 1996, We are Niagara Falls & Buffalo's longest running not-for-profit independent Hostel! We serve as a communal homestead to travelers, domestic & abroad visiting Buffalo, Niagara Falls, NY & Canada, & the WNY region.
